The city budget crisis must be really that bad. Today, the LA Department of Transportation announced the elimination of free transfers on all of its DASH Downtown L.A. routes effective April 1. Fares will remain $0.25 per boarding and monthly passes can now be bought for $9 online or at various locations. "It will help a little bit," LADOT Bruce Gilman said of the increased revenue, which is projected to be around $130,000 annually based on an average of 10,000 transfers a week. "And we introduced a new pass that we want people to take advantage of." As for integrating with Metro's TAP fare system, Gilman said the department is "moving in that direction."

One of my main gripes with MTA is that they stopped kicking in funding to Dash so that your proof of MTA fare got you a free ride on connecting Dash buses.
Exactly, jrb. And things will change even more when DASH gets TAP (so many acronyms!)
Tell me, jrb, which Metro lines did you want cancelled to maintain your free ride on DASH?
Little late in responding, hope you read this.
If I had my druthers mass transit would recieve all the funding it needed to inspire people to give up their cars all together. Schwarzenegger pisses me off every time he "borrows" and steals from that funding in order to balance the budget. In the eyes of most politicians mass transit seems to be seen as a poverty entitlement, rather than a solution to pollution, gridlock, and climate change.
But back to Metro cutting that DASH funding. It's short sighted, counter productive, and when you can't connect to a DASH with your Metro fare to get to you ending destination, it gives potential riders even less incentive to use public transportation.
I know you guys do the best you can, but you really ought to rethink that funding.
You could transfer between DASHes? Aw crap.
