I Kid Thee Not: M.I.A.'s Kid is Named Ikhyd. Explanation, Please?

The impending birth of her first baby didn't keep British-Sri Lankan rapper diva M.I.A. from hitting the stage at this year's Grammy's, and just a couple of days later she delivered her son. Although plans to roll the new mom onstage at this year's Academy Awards show didn't pan out (thank goodness?), she has just been added to the line up for next month's Coachella, ostensibly replacing fellow Brit Amy Winehouse, whose legal troubles are making crossing the pond a bit difficult.

But M.I.A. also wants to set the record straight about the name of her baby, for which she's already taking a bit of heat. "The baby's full mouthful of a moniker, Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman, was revealed on his birth certificate obtained by TMZ," explains the NY Daily News. "The rapper chided 'the Hollywood press' on MySpace earlier this month for incorrectly reporting on her infant son's name," after they began to call the infant "Ickitt."

No explanation was given as to the derivation or origin of Ikhyd. Any guesses?

I believe that "Ikhyd" is Sri Lankan for "Ickitt".
