Philadelphia 76ers defeat LA Lakers 94-93. With a foul to give the Lakers let Andre Iguodala get off a three pointer at the end of the game to burn them. Mind you this is after Kobe drained a jumper for the lead with six seconds left. The Lakers had led by as many as 14 points early in the fourth quarter but let it slip away with very sloppy play. After their last game Phil Jackson commented on the Laker's lack of a killer instinct. If this game wasn't evidence of that...As Stu Lantz said at the end of the FSWest broadcast there was a lot of green in the building. What the hell is wrong with you Lakers fans? How the hell do you think it's remotely appropriate to wear green in the Staples Center? Dumbasses.
Golden State Warriors defeat LA Clippers 127-120. The Clippers lost again.
USA defeats Puerto Rico 6-5. After missing opportunities throughout the game David Wright lined a single down the right baseline that scored two which gave the US the walk off victory. This is the same Puerto Rico team that crushed the US 11-1 in seven mercy rule innings. There has been a lot of talk of the US players not being that into the World Baseball Classic. After seeing their celebration at the end of the game, it's very hard to make an argument for that anymore. By the way, Jonathan Broxton was the winning pitcher of the game.
Notable Notes
- The most lovable baseball player in all the world Alex Rodriguez is on the cover of Details this month. Admittedly the photos were taken before the A-Roid story broke. But the fact that just after SI's Selena Roberts confronted him in Miami, he calls writer Jason Gay asking him not to publish his favorite Madonna song. A very strange cat to say the very least. But I'd still fuck him.
- History was made in the NHL and New Jersey Devil's goalie Martin Brodeur broke Patrick Roy's record notching his 552nd win. While the feat is pretty amazing as it is, Brodeur is nowhere near finished. At only 36 his current contract will take him to the 2011-12 season. This could go down as one of those records in all of sports that will never be surpassed: Cy Young's 511, Joe DiMaggio's 57, Gordie Howe's 1,767.
