The Return of the Guinness Cupcake

IMG_2810 (Small).JPG No one really likes green beer or Shamrock Shakes. And corned beef and cabbage is iffy at best.

Luckily Yummy Cupcakes has brought back their Guinness cupcakes this year, available today and tomorrow at both store locations, in Burbank and in Santa Monica.

The Guinness is added with a light hand, so the mild cake tastes mostly of buttermilk, cocoa and brown sugar. The glazed topping holds the strongest taste of ale, topped with a light cocoa whipped cream and green sanding sugar.

Other special St. Patrick's Day flavors served tomorrow will be:

  • Irish Cream Pie: Chocolate cupcake filled with whipped cream, topped with an Irish cream whipped cream and chocolate blossoms

  • Chocolate Mint Chip: Chocolate cupcake topped with a light green peppermint buttercream mixed with chocolate chips

  • and of course...Lucky Charms: Vanilla bean cupcake, centered with marshmallow cream, frosted with a light green vanilla buttercream, sprinkled with Lucky Charms...magically delicious!

Awww Elise, cupcakes FTW definitely, but why ya gotta if-itize on the corned beef and cabbage? Granted it's not a regular on my menu, but sometimes when ya gotsta have it, ain't nothing better.

I am talking about the greasy crock-pot corned beef and cabbage that sits in the corner of the bar simmering in a fetid oilslick until you are drunk enough not to care. I don't mean delicious homemade corned beef, like my own recipe that I just happen to conveniently link to.

Recipe for Irish Car Bomb cupcakes found maybe here on laist? Can't remember. Took them to the Radiohead concert at the bowl last year and good times were had by everyone around.

OK, I gotta throw some love toward the Shamrock Shake... always a guilty pleasure at Franklin Avenue HQ.

OMG, I love the Shamrock Shake, no matter how disgusting everyone (and McDonald's employees) thinks it is!

Ickk I drank one last year for you guys and it was spearmint. Spearmint!

Before I went vegetarian I definitely rocked the Shamrock Shake (and $1 filet-o-fish fridays). And I don't even like mint. Maybe that's why I liked it? It has a subtle flavor, which is saying a lot, for McDonalds.

Thou blaspheme the Holy Corned Beef and Cabbage. An eternity of damnation shall be thine reward.

I guess it depends on the person. I like Guinness, so I'd prolly like Guinness cup cakes. Too bad I don't plan on being anywhere near Burbank or Santa Monica today or tomorrow.

Hey Elise, why don't you post one or two of your Mom's famous Irish recipes again. I lost the Guinness stew recipe you posted last year. Sounded yummy!

You inspired me to post more recipes. I included a link to the Beef Braised in Guinness in that post. Watch for it on St Pat's. BTW there is also a search function under our logo if you lose it again.

personally, i love the shamrock shake and will be sharing one with my lady friend tomorrow

Whaaa?!? Love the Shamrock Shake and all its creamy goodness. Speak for yourself!

I have come to defend the corned beef and cabbage. There is hardly a better meal to be had anywhere. Get out of my RSS with that blasphemy!

The cupcakes were pretty good but there's no way you would ever guess "Guinness" in a blind taste test. The "Old School" is still the best.
