Seattle's main paper is actually the Seattle Times, which is still going to stay intact, though they're hurting too. The two operated as semi-competitors up till now.

It will be a disheartening and absurd day when a major US city is forced to shut down its only newspaper. That is, if that day hasn't already come?

I think that day will come, but it won't come to LA first. It will be smaller cities with smaller papers before us, despite the massive budget of a big-city paper. However, you are correct. While I'm sad for the demise of the PI, Seattle was lucky enough to have 2 daily newspapers all the way up to now, when most cities went down to one 20-30 years ago.

Yeah, exactly, Abby. Anyone who grew up in or near Seattle thinks of the Times as being "the paper".
