Come April, a new 50-acre park adjacent to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area will open offering 360 degree views of the LA Basin and Pacific Ocean. The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook will host a visitor center with exhibits and small trails featuring a rehabilitated coastal sage scrub plant community.

But as we await that, California State Parks have much more to offer locally and regionally. The Los Encinos State Historic Park in Encino is a good place for bird watching this time of year and over at the Los Angeles State Historic Park in Chinatown, wildflowers are beginning to bloom. Wildflowers can also be seen at Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park between the Valley and Simi Valley.

Regionally, we've got the Crystal Cove State Park (see above photo), which has 3.5 miles of Orange County beach and undeveloped woodland great for exploring tidepools. Up north, there's Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve, an international favorite. Head a little further out to San Bernardino County and you'll hit the Mitchell Caverns Natural Preserve and the Providence Mountains State Recreation Area where cavern tours are offered daily.

I have been watching this park develop for the past two years, the view is spectacular especially after a rain storm and or a windy morning. I recorded this view along with many other locations with a point and shoot camera, and posted them as a Youtube video at: www.Youtube.com/rvmann333 (Click on...more info. for a clear description of the imagery) the sound is wind blown so shut off your audio, and as a compiled still also posted on my website at: www.rvmann.com Click on portfolio, scroll down to the last image of downtown and open that photo. This is a single composition of a series four compilations of the entire 190 degree view from Downtown Los Angeles to El Segundo Beach from the Baldwin Hills State park.

As a kid, I used to play in these hills in the early 50's when it was a US Army camp and observation fortress.

I was wondering when or of there will be a grand opening?

Congratulations on creating an inspirational viewing park for Los Angeles.
