From the Malibu Lagoon Museum/Adamson House or the Echo Park Historical Society, the Los Angeles region is chock full of small non profit historical societies archiving our history and educating the public. The problem is, they have few resources and little time and money to do outreach with. To help solve that problem, a coalition of historical groups are pulling their resources together for one big event at the Heritage Square Museum (near the Gold Line) on March 22nd called L.A. Heritage Day (it's $5, but free if you bring this flyer)
"For an area widely misperceived as having no 'real' history, the Los Angeles region has more than 200 historical organizations, societies, and museums dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich and varied pasts of various regions, industries, and individuals," the Los Angeles Heritage Alliance writes on their blog. "The L.A. Heritage Alliance is a network of these groups formed in 2008 to unify and leverage their efforts."
This looks like the ultimate Los Angeles event for us to get our geek on. Here's a list of who is confirmed so far with some more expected to be added. We're excited, are you?

Now this is MY kind of event!
Los Angeles is AWASH in history and historical sites. If you doubt this...visit, as a start, the LA Conservancy's website under "Preservation Resources/Preservation Organizations & Historical Societies"; the "bigorangelandmarks" blogspot; and USC's "LA as Subject" site. Another interesting one is the "You-Are-Here".com site of lA buildings, murals and public art, maintained by a German man named Martin who lives in Stuttgart but visits LA frequently: a Google search under "Historic Buildings Los Angeles Photo Gallery" will bring it up.

I've never seen such a wide range of heritage groups come together - seriously. This'll be something to see. And it's free!
