Man Dies After Eating Mushrooms Picked in a Park

poisonosmushrooms.jpeg If you are into urban foraging, beware of the consequences if you are not savvy to what you pick. A man in Santa Barbara died last week after chose the wrong mushrooms in a park to saute with his steak. "The man had picked poisonous amanita ocreata mushrooms, which are common in the Santa Barbara area, at the Douglas Family Preserve above Arroyo Burro Beach," reported the Associated Press. Six hours after eating his meal, he was in the hospital.

Don't mess with the Destroying Angel.

Not sure how it's Darwinism. People go hunting for mushrooms all the time. How do you think human beings started eating them? There are several varieties of mushrooms you can buy which need to be hunted rather than cultivated, anyway (I think chanterelles and morels). Many poisonous ones look like safe ones, though, which is why it's best to go with someone experienced. But maybe he had done it before and just made a bad, bad mistake this time.

I blame the recession. Mushrooms are getting expensive.
