- 3,000 gathered yesterday in South L.A. to remember the highly respected Deputy Police Chief Kenneth O. Garner who died unexpectedly last week at the age of 53.
- LA Snark is trying to get Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier to go to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle to do a review with them. If you didn't know, Ethier is also an avid food blogger.
- It might not be enough, but California should get about $50 billion in federal stimulus money over the next few years. $30 billion should be received outright with the remaining gathered through grants.

- A new and already trendy burger joint has opened downtown on 6th at Spring proving that the neighborhood is on the rise, recession or not.
- Just because the LA Times didn't cover a radio enabled media-stunt protest--it drew 8,000 in Orange County--doesn't mean they're not covering important issues. "Thanks to each of you for writing. I appreciate hearing from all of you -- even the ones who called me a moron," California Editor David Lauter explained in an e-mail reply to various angry readers. He goes on to explain that the paper has run 30 stores on tax and budget proposals including a chart explaining tax breakdowns.
- There's a new literary magazine in Southern California and they're looking for writer submissions for the next issue.
- What does 30,000 recycled plastic bottles mean? For one Studio City woman, it's an art installation next month at the Otis College of Art & Design in Westchester and she needs about 2,000 more to finish the project.
- No final decisions have been made, but the San Diego region is planning on using a good chunk of their federal stimulus on transit projects including Interstate 905, Highway 76 and "to repair aging electrical lines on the trolley's blue line, which connects downtown with San Ysidro," according to Voice of San Diego.
