Wildflowers, Cherry Blossoms Show Promising Start

Casey Schreiner over at Modern Hiker took a walk in the Verdugo Mountains between Glendale and Burbank on Sunday finding a few patches of wildflowers. Blogdowntown's Ed Fuentes also found himself walking on Sunday, albeit in South Park where he was enjoying the full bloom of cherry blossoms on 12th street.

The late-winter, early-spring flower season can come and go in a blink of the eye if you're not paying attention, but flower lovers of all types are gearing up to experience and capture all the beauty they can soak up. The folks at DesertUSA are already filing wildflower reports and the Theodore Payne Foundation will begin their popular wildflower hotline on Friday.

Staff at state and national parks are already starting to update their own webpages too. Over at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, "the flowers are really out," park officials write on their website. Further north in Death Valley National Park, it's still too early (.pdf). But things move fastly. Like they say at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve, mother nature is finicky.
