Midnight Movie: We're in a Drought, Will You Tattle on Your Neighbors?

Or on the city for using sprinklers when it's raining? On Friday, Schwarzengger declared a state emergency warning that mandatory rationing could be coming soon.

They're absolutely right. If we just captured the meager rainfall that lands in L.A., we'd be fine. As it is, the rain comes, hits the streets, goes down the storm drains to the L.A. River and out to the ocean. What a depressing waste!

Our infrastructure is just not set up to benefit the city. We're still worshipping Mulholland and his easy (albeit impressive) fix from almost a century ago.

If you ever have the chance, stop by TreePeople Park at Coldwater Canyon and MULHOLLAND (ironic, isn't it?). They have a simple yet impressive system that captures and reuses rainwater to irrigate the entire park throughout the year. We could all be doing this. The cost to set it up at your home is less than you'd spend to purchase water from the DWP next year.

TreePeople Park is a waycool place. I'm sure many thousands of people drive by there on their commute and never see it. Lots of cool info, plus it's just a nice place to have a picnic lunch.

Oh, and everything else Mr. Tee said too.

how am i supposed to water my driveway!

Sadly, I think I MIGHT tattle on my neighbors.

But maybe this is a better solution: I actually snuck over there and turned off their automatic sprinkler timer two weeks ago during all the rain we were getting! It's an apt building and the owner lives elsewhere--and none of the tenants had a clue (apparently). I turned the timer back on a week later.

How's this for a solution:

Price water according to it's supposed scarcity. Outside the desire to play enviro-nanny, there's absolutely no incentive to conserve water as long as it remains cheap at the tap.

I will gladly! I hate my neighbors.

I already reported my own landlord after having a friendly conversation with them about how it was actually wasteful, harmful, and now illegal to water our dying (over-irrigated) lawn multiple hours a night and/or while it was raining resulted in them telling me there were more important things for them to worry about it. Apparently they were wrong.

My neighbors? In a heartbeat.
