Here's to Your Health: Thanksgiving Edition
"Gunshots in neighborhood. Double drive-by. Police, LAFD on scene," City Council President Eric Garcetti tweeted last night about two shootings in his district and Echo Park neighborhood. Thirty minutes later, another drive by shooting happened in nearby Glassell Park "One homicide, one attempted homicide, another homicide in second location/neighorhood," he followed up a couple hours later.
Then today, another update with two simple words: "arrest made."
Imagine, if you will, this scene. Suspected gang member Andre Upshaw, 33, was in court today for felony drug charges when LAPD officers busted into the court room with guns drawn, according to the LA Times. Upshaw was arrested without incident. One of the connecting pieces of evidence leading to his arrest was a black truck seen at all three shootings at 5:02 p.m., 5:03 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at 1600 block of Baxter Street, the 2000 block of Echo Park Avenue and the 4300 block of Toland Way, respectively.

Pardon my skepticism, but what I imagine here is someone going to their regularly scheduled felony drugs hearing, when suddenly a staffer at the courthouse notices a black truck and a Latino-looking man and concludes: "this must be the guy."
Or maybe he just decided to off whoever may have turned on him in lieu of the drugs charge. But then I would have imagined some sort of skipping trial / high-speed car chase scenario.
Hopefully the "record number of LA police" don't fall for such easy answers and fully investigate this. All I'm reading here is a man detained on suspicion of resembling a black truck-driving, possibly Latino gunman.
