Pot Dispensary Operators Can Exhale: Feds Say No More Raids

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced yesterday that "federal authorities will stop raiding dispensaries in states where medical marijuana is legal," reports the Daily News.

Two LA City Councilmembers, Bill Rosendahl and Dennis Zine, support the decision, and hope this will permit local officials to "better regulate dispensaries in the city." Currently there is a tension between state and local governments who allow marijuana to be dispensed to prescription-holders--under Proposition 215 legalized in California in 1996--and the federal government, under whose auspices the drug is illegal.

Drug Enforcement Agency officers have raided several Los Angeles dispensaries, "seizing cash and pot but not making any arrests," in the operation.
