After December's debacle of Time Warner internet service outages, especially around 10 p.m., they started to strike again over the past week. "Over the past 7 days, hackers have launched a series of DOS attacks on Time Warner Cable's DNS servers, affecting customer experience in our Southern California and National regions," TWC wrote two days ago.
They continued to say that "these attacks are not uncommon, especially for a network as large as ours. However, this particular series of attacks has been larger and more difficult to contain than similar attacks in the past. We suspect that the attackers are using 'zombie computers,' or hijacking unsuspecting subscribers' machines to perpetuate the attack without its owner's knowledge."
Then it happened again last night affecting Southern California among other areas. Customers won't be given a refund automatically, but they are issuing credits on a case by case basis, they say.

What's their excuse for shitty service the rest of the time?
"what shitty service?"
:P
I could have sworn this was going on for a long time. I know it happened around the wildfires in the recent past, where I just went fuck it to the techs on the phone who knew nothing about the situation and started using OpenDNS. Now I don't have any issues.
My service was completely out (phone, internet and cable TV) yesterday when I went home for lunch and again last night from eight to who knows when. It's working this morning, but I'm definitely calling them for a bill adjustment this time.
It's one thing to have microsecond interruptions in service on an almost daily basis. It's another to have no service at all for substantial periods of time.
Maybe it's time for a new provider.
Yeah, I wouldn't stand for that sort of internet service (you know, considering the job and all). However, I have TWC Cable TV and have never had any problems except customer service ignoring service request e-mails.
I just called them (Sat) after having crappier than usual internet service and got a two week refund. Don't bother with the tech people, immediately ask to be transferred to the local office otherwise they'll want to do bogus modem tests when it's really their server problem. Our internet kept going out after 7 or 8 pm with spotty service during the day.
