Mayoral candidate David Saltsburg, most widely known as the Venice activist Zuma Dogg, was taken in for questioning last night by police as he arrived to a mayoral debate at the Claude Pepper Senior Center on La Cienega Boulevard. "The detectives interviewed and subsequently released the candidate pending review of this case by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office," an LAPD statement said.

Earlier Thursday morning, Saltsburg allegedly threatened to kill fellow candidate Craig X Rubin if he showed up to that night's debate in a telephone message. "As a pastor, I felt kind of conflicted about it," Rubin told the LA Times. "You know, turn the other check. But I really did feel threatened."

Saltsburg denies any wrongdoing
