The question is whether or not the broadcast of the Academy Awards was a winner or not. The show had 6% more viewers than in 2008 but 2008 was a record low year for viewership, but hey, the Oscars still ranks as the year's highest-rated entertainment spectacle on TV, so we must be nit-picking right?
We have to ask ourselves, do we really enjoy the schmaltzy cheeseball acts and lip-synching that is the staple of these awards shows? Also, viewers complained that some of the camera work during parts of the broadcast interfered with content that might have been interesting and engaging for the audience in the theater but was garbage for those at home.
For those following along on Twitter, among the "oohs" and "aahs" of starfawning, there were plenty of complaints about the produced numbers, the 4+ hour length of the show (not including pre- and post-programming) and a lot of "who gives a ____?" commentary.
What was your favorite/least favorite moment of last night's Oscars?
Our faves: We were very pleased to see a film that we highlighted months ago on the TV Junkie, Discovery Channel's "Man on Wire", take away the Best Documentary Oscar. The Paul Newman montage was great and very moving.
The TV Junkie Plan: "Tornado", "Top Gear", "24", "History Detectives", Kimmel

The "Man on the Wire" moment was awesome! This was my question to him backstage:
Q. Philippe, what adventures do you plan next for us?
A. Who is the person asking me that? (he finds me in the room) Well, actually, I have a secret, but if you are going to keep a secret, that will be fine. I am going to work in New York City in the fall, in a high wire walk to a library. I won't tell you which one and it will be the beginning of a series of walks for literacy around the country to inspire the kids to read.
I wish I had time for another question, which would be, "When will you ever do something in Los Angeles?"
fuck you dubaku!
