Here's a little of what we saw while on the red carpet at the Oscars...
Red-carpet host Robert Osbourne announces the arrival of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to the crowds and then takes a light jab at his controversial work schedule: "you're always out and about!"
When we saw him quickly walk by us, we yelled his name--he turned, we took this maniacal looking photo.

Nice shots, but it looks like you took them with a disposable camera. "trrrk, trrrk, trrrk"!
You're right, it was from a point and shoot. Pro cameras were not allowed in my section, however I found that most press ignored that and no one enforced it. Oh well, now we know!
Oh, I should add, despite this minor gaffe, the operation by the Academy is extremely thorough, planned well and executed smoothly. Props to them for that, I was impressed.
How far in advance did you have to arrive at the theater?
For the "press bleachers," about 2 p.m. So not that bad. Those who had to set up TV cameras, etc, were there for much longer.
