Parking Fees for Hikers Could Increase at Wilacre Park/Fryman Canyon

Parking at the popular Wilacre Park (see LAist's photo essay) in Studio City used to $3, but no one parked in the pay lot because street parking on Fryman Canyon was a free-for-all. That didn't help the residents who had to fight the crowded side streets abut an empty parking lot.

So a compromise of sorts was set forth a couple years ago: lower the price of parking to $1 in the lot and make the streets restricted to permits.

Tomorrow morning, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the Santa Monica Mountains Advisory Committee will vote on raising the price back to $3 to keep prices consistent with other parks in the system, but also to increase funding for maintenance of the park (See PDFs of the meeting agenda, staff report and resolution).
