Classical Pick of the Week: Happy (Almost) 200th, Papa Haydn!

There has been little mention of the fact that this is the year of Haydn's Bicentennial. Or maybe because it's on May 31st, 1809, but celebrations are already underway. LACO still has tickets available for tonight's concert, featuring one of his London Symphonies, Symphony no. 92. LAist readers get discounted tickets for this performance, more information can be found here . The concert also features violinist extraordinaire Cho-Liang Lin and longtime LACO flutist David Shostac.

Sundays Live continues their celebration of Haydn with their 2nd all Haydn concert tonight, if you want to watch a free show at the LACMA instead of the Oscars. Next week's performance also includes the Haydn String Quartet in F Major. As always, performances start at 6 in the Bing Theater.

One important thing to note, the LA Opera begins with probably one of the most significant works of art of all time (and probably the biggest LA Opera production to date), Wagner's Ring Cycle. You can get a look at the opera Das Rheingold starting this Saturday at 7:30 PM, with performances into March 15th. To see the entire cycle, you can wait until May or June to see them all at once. One caveat, Wagner operas are long.
