LAst Night's Action: Wednesday Night Just Like Tuesday

LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 129-121. The Lakers had to work hard in this second game of a back-to-back. The trailed by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. But they shook off the doldrums and took control of the game at the end of the quarter. The Warriors didn't give up, but the trio of Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol was just too much for them. Both teams had six players that scored in double digits. The Lakers with a 44-10 record have the third best record after 54 games in franchise history. In the other two seasons, 1971-1972 and 1987-1988, they won the NBA title.
Phoenix Suns defeat LA Clippers 142-119. Well the Clippers didn't lose by 40 this time around. And that's all I have for positives. With Zach Randolph suspended for two games, Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby and Brian Skinner injured or sick that left rookie Deandre Jordan as the only big man for the Clips. Man the Clippers are awful. I wonder if I could suit up for them.
LA Kings defeat Anaheim Ducks 4-3. This hasn't happened in a long while, but going into the game the Ducks were the desperate team coming into the freeway series. The Kings showed how well they played on the road by scoring fairly quickly in the first period. Yet again the Ducks made stupid penalties allowing the Kings to score two power play goals, the last on a 5-3 advantage. The Kings have won eight of their last nine road games and will close out the season with 18 of the last 26 games on the road. The Kings are three points out of a playoff spot while the Ducks are one point away.
Notable Notes
- Psych! On Tuesday the New Orleans Hornets traded Tyson Chandler to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a couple of dudes. Late Wednesday night the Thunder didn't medically clear Chandler and have rescinded the trade. Meanwhile the Lakers traded center Chris Mihm to the Memphis Grizzlies for a conditional second round pick in 2010. With the Lakers dumping Mihm and Vladimir Radmonovic, they are clearing room to re-sign Lamar Odom and Kobe Bryant. Odom is an unrestricted free agent after this season, and Bryant can opt out of his contract at the end of the season.
- Late Tuesday night Houston Rocket's shooting guard Tracy McGrady announced he would undergo microfracture surgery on his left knee and be out for the rest of the season and possibly the beginning of next season. Head coach Rick Adelman was pissed because McGrady didn't inform anyone in the organization that he was opting for surgery. If I were anyone affiliated with the Rockets, I'd be pissed because it's more than evident McGrady doesn't train hard enough to keep injuries to a minimum. He's missed chunks of the last three seasons with one injury or another.
- The Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin is amazing. In the game against the Montreal Canadiens, Ovechkin steals the puck, passes it to himself, fights off a defender and freezes the goalie to squeeze in a goal. Amazing.
