And so it goes in local radio...another station is shutting down and re-emerging as something the consumers apparently want more. In the wake of Indie 103.1's demise comes word that 97.1 FM, where folks like Adam Carolla, Tom Leykis, Danny Bonaduce, and Sam Phillips take the mic, will be no more as of this Friday, according to Defamer. News spread when Phillips made mention of the shutdown in a Facebook status update. Word has it the station will revamp and roll out again as an AMP Radio affiliate, playing such current faves as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Rihanna. And if it's happening on the airwaves, the proof is on the internet: "According to Radio Insight, someone recently, quietly registered the web domains AmpRadioLA.com, Amp971.com, and Amp971fm.com" a few days ago. And what of 97.1's chatterboxes? "A Howard Stern Show news board is reporting Carolla, who replaced Stern after Stern left for Sirius, has been fired." LAist recently interviewed Carolla's co-hostess, Teresa Strasser.

This just ruined my day - and my morning, lunch, and evening drives
I hope this is not true. My workday will be ruined if they go.
Aw man! That was the only FM station I listened to. I'd switch to satellite during the breaks. Now's it 100% Sirius for me. I hope everyone there finds another job soon.
I think it might just be true - it's 2:30PM and Frosty, Heidi and Frank are still on the air, even though Danny Bonadoucehbag is supposed to be on.
I canceled my XM because I wound up listening to FreeFM during my drives. Ugh, this really really blows.
The only show that I regularly listen to on 97.1 is Frosty, Heidi and Frank. I hope they resurface somewhere on L.A. terrestrial radio where I can still listen to them in the car.
Good riddance to Carolla (snooze) and Leykis (douche).
John and Jeff (how in the hell did they ever get that job in the first place?) and Tim Conway Jr. are unlistenable.

This is terrible. The most depressing thing about getting laid off a few months ago was that I no longer have a 45 minute commute every morning to listen to Carolla. Itunes and my ipod have gotten me through, but I guess that's over with now. Damn you, corporate fat cats!

The sad thing is that this station is full of BONAFIDE HIT SHOWS. This isn't the bottom of the barrel dropping out.
This is big news. Good riddance to Corolla. I could never stand him, but I felt stuck listening to him because I would fall asleep to John & Jeff and in the morning there weren't any options. After Bonaduce left, I found other options. I'll take KFI over that annoying windbag Corolla. FHF are talented, Leykis can be interesting when he switches up his format, and Tim Conway is good but used to be great with Whitman. The stupid Program Director never should have ran Brian Whitman off. Weekends have always been an unlistenable wasteland. 48 hours of paid spots. If this news is true, it seems that the station management (program director) had it coming. Conway was talking last night about the GM's goodbye party, so I guess it's hasta la vista to this FM Talk format. Too bad.
Like the departing talkers or not, the truth is that they were all pretty highly rated. It's effed.
97.1 was the only listenable terrestrial radio in LA after Indie left.
