LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Caution, the craziest shit you ever saw ahead. Photo by Michael Camacho via LAist Flickr Photo Pool.
Don't let the rain get you down this week. Get out there and enjoy yourself some comedy! There's Sarah Silverman, Andy Daly, Brendon Burns, Maya Rudolph, Jon Lajoie, John Pinette, just to name a few. Hit me up here to promote your own show.
MONDAY 2/16
Frankenmatt: Pilgrimage, 11p Second City. The guys I loved so much before are back with a two-man improv show that starts in a car and ends anyfrigginwhere.
Wikipedia LIVE, 11p iO West. These improvisors take your suggestions and rotate in and out, trying to get to the ultimate definition of how Wikipedia itself would define it. Yes.
TUESDAY 2/17
Brendon Burns, 8p iO West. This guy is blazing white hot fire off the success of his run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. If Rhys Darby vouches for the man, you gotta know it’s worth checking out.
Comedy Death Ray, 8:30p UCB. Stand in line for the town’s best weekly stand up show, CDR. Matt Besser, Jerry Minor, and Sarah Silverman...and that’s before the drop-ins.
WEDNESDAY 2/18
Pop Genius, 8p UCB. Another huge week at UCB as this brain-busting gameshow hosts Besser, Danielle Schneider, Jimmy Pardo, and Andy Daly - fresh off his Eastbound & Down premiere on HBO on Sunday.
No Country for Grown Men, 8p Comedy Central Stage. Reginald D. Hunter is a big name in the UK, which means: 1., he’s awesome, and 2., you’ve probably never heard of him. A true shame, my friends.
THURSDAY 2/19
All Systems Are Go, 9p Second City. Matt Craig, Lloyd Ahlquist, Bobby Mort and others rock the stage with some musical accompaniment in this badass long-form improv show.
All Jew Review, 9:30p UCB. Try the standby line to see Maya Rudolph and Romany Malco get nutty with the sexy Ronna Glickman & Beverly Kahn characters that host this awesome show.
FRIDAY 2/20
Jon Lajoie, 8 The Improv. You’ve probably seen him on any one of a million Funny or Die or awesome YouTube videos, and his live stand up show is even better. A must see show.
Resignation Day, 8p Sacred Fools. On the eve of Nixon’s resignation, America’s best satire writer is having a seriously bad day.
SATURDAY 2/21
Wunna Weeks, 8p iO West. Wunna Weeks is a two man sketch comedy show by Danny Ricker and Adam Fisher. It's a mix of a traditional sketch show, a late-night talk show, and a YouTube channel. Be sure to stay after for Beer Shark Mice. It’s imperative.
The Tomorrow Show, Midnight Steve Allen Theatre. The wacky weekend show hosted by Ron Lynch and others brings comedy, variety, music...you name it.
SUNDAY 2/22
John Pinette, 7p Comedy & Magic Club. Former comic of the year lights up the stage with his light-hearted and personally-directed brand of stand up.
Sunday Spectacular, 8p Ultimate Improv. If it’s not sketch, it’s improv. If it’s not improv, it’s stand up. And if it’s none of those, then it’s something in between that really pushes the envelope. Westside comedy lives!
