David Beckham Reluctant to Come Back to LA

david_beckham_la.jpg Let the crying game begin. BBC News is reporting on Beckham's reluctance to return to Los Angeles now that the Don Garber imposed transfer deadline has come and gone. Unfortunately for Garber, the league and the L.A. Galaxy set a dangerous precedent long ago by being afraid to upset Beckham in any way, thus eliminating a lot of the leverage they may have had over him and helping create the ongoing circus. Nice move.

Come on... Did anyone really thought he wanted to play anywhere else other than europe? It's any player's dream. This guy needs to make one last contract before he retires and Europe is not really fighting over him. Povero vecchio...

If it were any other player, I'd want them to stay at Milan. But because of the circus that the Galaxy and Beckham had created however many years ago and because they failed so miserably, I want him back LA and I want them to continue doing poorly. He deserves to be humiliated.

@Fabricio
Here is the problem I have with people that try to defend his desire to stay in Milan: NOBODY forced him to leave Europe in the first place.

This notion that he somehow deserves to play in Italy and be surrounded by top flight players is totally ludicrous to me. He WAS in Europe, at one of the top teams in the World and he CHOSE to leave. Nobody forced his hand. He signed with the Galaxy almost 6 months prior to the expiration of his contract at Real. He had plenty of time to think it over.

Now that things aren't as great as he had hoped, he wants out, and people want to defend him by saying that he still has skills that deserve a move. The same skills that seem to have disappeared midway through the Galaxy 2008 season. How bizarre, wouldn't you agree?

Just like people think he is somehow being wronged by not being allowed to go or having to play on a lackluster team, I think it is equally wrong that there are teammates of his on the Galaxy squad that barely make the league minimum because so much of the salary cap is eaten up by his salary, and it is equally wrong that new fans are paying about 30% more for season tickets since his arrival. Much like people want to argue he deserves it, the Galaxy and its fans also deserve players that are committed, not flakes like him.

I could care less about his desire to play for England in 2010. I consider him a Galaxy player, not an English National Team player who happens to stay in shape with the Galaxy.

@hallmonitor

I tend to agree. If it were up to me, I'd bench him for a while, then trade him to the worse team or the place he would least likely enjoy, say Columbus (not taking shots at Columbus, just seems like the least likely place he'd want to live).

Like I said. He left Europe because he is too old. He is at the end of his career and Galaxy was something too good to be true for him (money). Now he wasnt to be on world TV and Europe gives him that. I don't see any team fighting over him in Europe. The italians were right... The celebrity is worth a lot of money, but the player is not; and only players score goals.

The only reason to have him around is because he brings attention to local soccer. And given the dearth of coverage for the sport, this is a case of any news is good news.

As a guy who used to have 20 yard line season tickets to the Rams, I could care less about getting a local NFL team if it means Soccer/Futbol gets the attention it deserves.

As for the Beckmans, I wish them a long life in retirement.

He's not too old for Europe. Including Beckham, 16 members of AC Milan are 30 years of age or older. Their captain Maldini is 40!

I really hope he stays with Milan, the Galaxy and the MLS are atrocious. He sent killer balls to his LA teammates and they couldn't even trap them, did you watch some of those games? He laid out balls in space for his mates to make runs onto these great routes and they were standing at midfield staring at him. "Oh, was that for me?" I often quiped to my girlfriend how he must come home after Galaxy games, lay on a bed lined with C-notes and cry. And cry.
