As Tall As Lions have been in town recording an album they hope to wrap up in the next few weeks, and are going to play some new stuff--and old--at a free show this Wednesday night at the Troubadour.

Last Thursday night, the boys braved the cold--and borrowed some gloves from a couple of shivering audience members--and played a half-hour acoustic set outside in the courtyard of Space 15 Twenty, the enclave of shops, food, and the arts just north of Sunset Boulevard between Cahuenga and Ivar. The band, who are fantastic live, managed to keep the mood lively despite the chilly temp, and mingled new songs with tracks from their self-titled 2006 album, like "Song for Luna," and an impromptu "Ghost of York," (by request).

As Tall As Lions sound incredible acoustic, but they really rock when they're fully plugged in, as we discovered in 2007 when they played the Troub. Their music is the aural equivalent of watching a series of time-lapse photos of a storm rolling across the horizon; it's the slow wail of mourning set to a runner's heart rate as he tackles a hilly course. Check them out and show them some Los Angeles love--besides, you can't beat the price of FREE!

Aw. Not to toot my own horn, but a couple of songs off of their self titled album were written about me.

It makes me all tingly inside when I hear about them, even though we don't speak any longer. They really are a great band and an excellent group of guys.

Say what??? Written about you? So curious! I'd say "do tell" but it's the comments and all...

They are indeed a great band, and they make great music. Happy to spread the word.
