The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra continues their exciting concert season next week Saturday (tickets) and Sunday (tickets) with a wide ranging concert featuring Joseph Haydn, Bizet and a Tango work by the Grammy award winning film composer who wrote the original Mission: Impossible TV score.

And like last time, we're giving away two pairs of tickets to the Saturday night concert at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Guest Violinist Cho-Liang Lin will play on the U.S. premiere of Tangos Concertantes by composer Lalo Schifrin, who was also was nominated in the Academy Awards for movies Cool Hand Luke and The Competition. Also, the Orchestra's principal flautist David Shostac will play on the world premiere of his own Carmen Fantasy, which incorporates his own compositions with Bizet and Borne.

Enter to win a pair of tickets by commenting on this post, telling us your favorite instrument found in the orchestra. Whether that be one of the usual suspects like cellos and violins or the rarer and eccentric like the contrabassoon and triangle, you've got lots of choices. More details on entering the contest are below.

Here's how the contest works:

  • Enter the contest by making a comment on this post. Comments must fit the criteria, stated below.
  • The criteria of the comment is that you say what your favorite instrument found in an orchestra is.
  • The contest closes at 12:00:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2009.
  • Two of qualifying entries will be randomly selected to receive a pair of tickets to the February 21st show at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. They will be notified via the e-mail connected to their LAist.com login. They must confirm the receipt of the e-mail by 11:59:59 p.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2009 or the tickets will be released to another winner.

The clarinet! I can play one too!

Trumpet. Sexiest from Miles, but cool most any other time! Or the French horn, just cuz...

french horn, hands down.
i played for seven years. never has so much work produced such beautiful noise.

My favorite is the timpani, mirimba- basically any of the percussion.

Usually I would say the violin (they say its the instrument most similar to the human voice). But a frantic percussionist on the triangle is hilarious, so I'll go with the triangle.

Still rare among orchestras, but classical guitar.

clarinet is my favorite instrument.

i love the cello! cello music makes something inside of me melt, so beautiful!

The bass hands down. It's the most versatile of orchestra instruments. How many times do you see a jazz band with a clarinet?

The Cello is my favorite; such romantic music just warms my heart!

tuba! it sounds funny, and its name sounds funny too.

When you play an instrument - even for just a little bit, I think you form a special relationship with it- so for me, it's the clarinet.

saxomophone saxomophone.

actually i believe it's spelled saxophone .

Hope all is well

I love violins in an orchestra. It gives the underlying tone.

Violin.
Cho-Liang Lin
I win.

Violin.
Cho-Liang Lin
I win.

Violas! Warm tones, just stringy goodness!

the cello will make you cry

The Piano! The most complex and mystical instrument amongst the orchestration.

Hello, It's the Cello, with a sound both beautiful and mellow!

i'm not entering the contest but...i'm surprised to hear some viola nominations....

What's the difference between a viola and a trampoline?
You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline!

ok ill stop

I love the cello! I love winning contests, too!

Cello! Yo Yo Ma is so much better than Rob and Fab ever were.

Those mellow mournful cello tones reverberating though the hall and through your bones...

I love the flute because Phoebe plays it.

most definitely the standing bass! loves it!

The flute. There was a student in my high school who played the flute. I had never heard such sweet sounds coming from an instrument before. Never forget that student. That was over 40 years ago,

Kettle drums, I love the big boom. Speaking of which, when they really rock the 1812, cannons are even better, do those count?

I love the cello. Hope it's not too late.
