ART
The first contemporary art project at the Getty Villa, “Jim Dine: Poet Singing (The Flowering Sheets), ends its run today at 5 pm. The installation presented new sculpture and poetry by Jim Dine inspired by ancient objects in the Museum's collection. “Dine's highly personal vision finds further expression in a poem drawn on the walls, with its Orphic themes of travel, loss, and the possibilities of art.”

TALK*
After the devastating L.A. riots in 1992, the South Central Farmers planted a garden to let families grow their own food and rebuild their community. But the 14-acre site became the subject of a fierce and ongoing dispute between the mostly immigrant farmers and the developer who bought the land to build a warehouse. Scott Hamilton Kennedy, producer and director of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Garden, visits Zócalo tonight to screen his work and discuss the crucial issues it raises about development, environment, power, money and race in Los Angeles. The free program begins at 7:30 pm at Laemmle’s Music Hall 3. Make your reservations here.

HIKE
There’s a Franklin Canyon full moon hike at 7 pm tonight. Explore the canyon and its nocturnal wildlife with a moderately strenuous hike at the same time. Meet at the Franklin Canyon Ranch Site lower parking lot near the bathrooms. Expect the hike to last around two hours.

FILM
REDCAT welcomes Argentinean filmmaker Leandro Katz and screens three of his films: The Day You'll Love Me “a poignant deconstruction of the iconic 1967 photograph of the dead Che Guevara within overlapping layers of political, historical and aesthetic discourse,” Splits and Paradox. The program begins at 8:30 pm and tickets are $9.

CLASSICAL
Southwest Chamber Music celebrates composer Charles Wourinen’s 70th birthday with a concert tonight at the Colburn School including “Eleven Short Pieces for Violin & Vibraphone” (West Coast Premiere); Ave Maria (Josquin); Iridule for Solo Oboe & Ensemble (West Coast Premiere) and The Haroun Songbook (West Coast Premiere).
