TV Junkie: Weekend Edition - Online Video Surges; Big Sunday

Showtime's "Secret Diary of a Call Girl"

This December, online video viewing surged over 13%, DigitalMediaWire says:

"A record nearly 150 million U.S. Internet users watched an average of 96 videos per viewer in December, with YouTube attracting 100 million viewers -- or two out of every three Internet users who watched video."

Wow. You people have some serious free time. We also suspect that the truly hideous December TV programming sent people to the web.

The Michael Phelps nonsense has reached new heights as the media frenzy has caused his sponsors to start dropping off. Back in August, the TV Junkie wrote about the media fawning over Phelps, yet conveniently whitewashing his 2004 DUI conviction. Phelps was a great story because he is flawed, not because he is perfect but he was built up by the same entities that are now trashing him. It's very unfortunate.

This Sunday is so jam-packed with programming it's a bit hard to navigate. We're watching "Flight of the Conchords" of course, as a couple weeks ago our friend Greg Proops had a guest spot and this Sunday we'll see LAist fave Jim Gaffigan do a cameo. Be sure to check out the full listings after the jump.

The TV Junkie Plan: Tonight - "Comedy Central Presents", Leno, Ferguson. Saturday - "SNL". Sunday - "Orangutan Island" (better than "Survivor"), The BAFTAs (vs. The Grammys), "Big Love", "Flight of the Conchords", "Secret Diary of a Call Girl"
