It’s a little quiet on the event front tonight. But people probably still need to recover from all their Super Bowl parties yesterday anyway.

Romantic film classics are playing at the ArcLight Theaters all month long. The original Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden screens at Sherman Oaks tonight at 7:30 pm. Hepburn steals the boys’ thunder and hearts on screen playing the chauffer’s daughter in this Billy Wilder rom-com.

Zócalo presents an evening with LAPD Chief William Bratton tonight at the Los Angeles Central Library’s Mark Taper Auditorium at 7:30 pm. Chief Bratton is probably the nation’s leading top cop, first in Boston, then NYC and now LA. Bratton’s time in L.A. has given him the chance to move beyond being a "turnaround" specialist, putting longer-term plans into place that have led to consistent and significant reductions in crime. Bratton will be interviewed by Jerry Sullivan, editor and publisher, Los Angeles Garment & Citizen, and discuss his tenure, its impact on the LAPD, the agency’s goals and challenges and his plans for the future. The event’s free, but reservations are recommended.

The UCLA Film & Television archive continues its 19th annual celebration of Iranian cinema with a screening of Among the Clouds (2008) by director Rouhollah Hejazi. Here’s a description of the film: “At a checkpoint on the Iran-Iraq border, 16-year-old Malek earns extra money pushing luggage for tourists and religious pilgrims. When he innocently woos a young woman who crosses frequently, Malek finds himself caught up in a criminal conspiracy spanning both countries.” The film will be screened at 7:30 pm at the Hammer Museum’s Billy Wilder Theatre. Tickets are $10. The Iranian cinema series continues through Feb. 21.

Do we think about what is really done to improve the situation in those places by the organizations that are founded to interfere where it is needed and secure the lives of innocent people? Do we engage in dialogues only when we are the ones being endangered, or do we have a conscience that says that this world is a home to us all, and every nation suffering should be given a helping hand? We should understand that if some conflicts do not effect us directly, indirectly we are all effected as a species that seems to work hard against its own survival. I found some very interesting thoughts on this subject in the book called The Age of Nepotism, you should look it up and read about current affairs in the world from the perspective of Iranian American entrepreneur traveling through the Balkans.
