Starbucks Wants to Save Bucks; Sorry Decaf Drinkers!

Starbucks will stop continually brewing decaf after noon to save money If you are a decaf coffee drinker* and you like to grab your jitter-free java at Starbucks, get ready to cut your consumer hours...or up your wait time. The world's largest coffee chain has announced plans to save some bucks--"$400 million by September," according to USA Today--by having brewed decaf sitting ready only until noon. After noon, customers who want a cup of decaf will have to request it and sit tight; a 'bucks spokesperson said "it takes about four minutes to brew up a fresh cup." The stores wind up wasting product by brewing pots of decaf continually since the demand decreases in the afternoon, and these days, even for the coffee maven, saving a few bucks can go a long way. (*Seriously, what's the point?)

Exactly, what the hell is the point? I can't identify with it since I don't drink coffee anyway, but coffee flavor blows.

Aww, come on Zach, coffee is the nectar of the Gods! :)

But yes, I don't quite see the point in decaf. *sips his French Roast*

I couldn't agree more with you. Part of the thing that makes coffee so awesome is that snappy caffeine infusion. Similar to non-alcoholic beer - what's the point? (And don't tell me it's so alcoholics and Muslims can look cool - when you're sipping O'Douls, everyone knows it's alcohol-free.) If I'm going with something that's not going to keep me awake, I'll take a naturally decaffinated tea over coffee with the caffeine sucked out (usually with harsh chemicals)/

I love coffee...but partly because of the caffeine. I can understand a coffee-drinker needing to switch to decaf for a health issue, but... even then... I don't get it. Also, my logic would say that the most likely time to drink decaf would be later in the day so that the caffeine wouldn't keep you up at night. People who must have decaf in the morning baffle me.
