New Metro Gold Line Train Hits Eastside Tracks

Today for the first time, a light rail train ran the tracks on the soon-to-open Gold Line eastside extension that goes from Union Station to East LA. It was part of a slow moving clearance test to evaluate how doors measure up to station platforms and to make sure trains pass by equipment and through tunnels safely. The last streetcar ran on First Street just after midnight on March 31, 1963, Metro says. The new extension of the Gold Line should open this Summer, most likely the end of June.

"hits"? That's a poor choice of words :-) I thought for sure it was an accident story when i saw that headline.

Remember, all you hiptards be sure to use the transport to gentrify the Eastside lest the locals get disappointed that you really don't want to open coffee shops and such. Gavacho plan GO!

It is kind of funny that a lot of people are afraid that moneyed, educated, upper class people will come to their neighborhood because of a train.

When the Gold Line was being built to Pasadena, people fought it because they were worried about poor, uneducated, lower- and working-class people would be coming to their neighborhood.

What is up with that?! Can everyone chill out? When we re-pave a road, does everyone get up in arms that now poor/rich people will be ale to invade their area? No, we don't, because if it's gonna happen it is largely economics that drives those "taking over" sorts of changes - not necessarily trains.

Yes, I'm sure rental prices in Boyle Heights are just going to go through the roof! All jokes asisde this is another great project by the MTA that has come in within budget and on schedule. Fantastic work. Looking forward to Alternative 11.
