RuPaul's Drag Race Invades World of Wonder

Last week World of Wonder threw an opening celebration for a new incredible exhibit of drag queen themed art. LAist was there to see the most beautiful people in LA arrive in droves to celebrate the upcoming premiere on February 2nd of RuPaul's Drag Race.

LAist arrived early, walked the red carpet, and went into the gallery to preview the art exhibit. The pieces were literally jumping off of the walls. In a collage by Jason Mecier, the artist made RuPaul's hair out a tangle of hair products. We found several photos by Austin Young and some of Adam David Cohen's Jeffery Star Barbie images.

Then the cast and guests began arriving in throngs. The gallery filled up so quickly that the fire marshal arrived and closed the doors to begin counting guests. We could see a line up of people for the red carpet and started to wonder when RuPaul would arrive. Later we heard that RuPaul was outside taking photos but that no one else was being let into the event including the guest of honor! We found out that many guest had been detained or turned away by the fire marshal.

The party was the most delicious kind of memorable LA night you dream about. LAist has the pleasure of celebrating RuPaul's upcoming show with Lenora Claire, Angus Oblong, Inbred Hybrid Collective, James St. James, Ongina, Amber Brooks, Jackie Beat, Christy Girlington, Barbie Q, Tammie Brown, ManEkin, Austin Young. The room was full of the most amazing energy. Everyone posed for photo after photo. We saw gorgeous makeup and outrageous fashion. But 10pm, LAist friend designer Santino Rice, who is a judge on the show, finally worked his way through the massive crowd outside and came in to join the festivities. You could see that everyone involved in the show feels excited to be part of such a fun creative community.
