Pencil This In: LA Art Show and 'Urban Death'

Still haven’t made up your mind about what to do tonight? Here are a few of LAist’s suggestions:

DANCE
Start your weekend with a bounce at the Punky Reggae Party at downtown’s La Cita. DJs spin vinyl (only) rock, reggae, dub and ska cuts perfect for loosening up after another week at the office. This party gets going at 9 pm.

ART*
As you may have seen yesterday, ART LA takes over the LA environs this weekend with Santa Monica’s Barker airport hangar serving as grand central. More than 60 galleries from LA and abroad will showcase their artists’ works during this three-day event. The show’s open until 6 pm tonight with $15 daily passes. (Weekend passes are $25.)

COMEDY
The Groundlings answer to Letterman or Leno - the The Completely Different Late Show hits the stage tonight at 10 pm. SNL alum like Will Ferrell have been known to stop by for a piece of the action. Tickets are $15.

THEATRE
Urban Death: A New Darkness is the new production by Zombie Joe's Underground theatre troupe. It promises to delve “into the depths of inexplicable horrors, unfathomable monstrosities, and the disturbed spirits walking among us. A theatrical thrill-ride of terrors, taboos, and trepidations!” Now who can pass something like that up on a dark and stormy night? The show begins at 8:30 pm.

For dance fans, remember that Joe Goode Performance Group performs their show Wonderboy for one show only tonight in Irvine. There’s a great Hitchcock retrospective at the Aero Theatre (as well as tons of other films listed in our Film Calendar and in our January Agenda.
