LA Lakers defeat Washington Wizards 117-97. The game was never in doubt from the opening tip off. When the crowd starts hanging on every action of Sun Yue on the court, you know the Lakers have coasted. Andrew Bynum led all scorers with 23 points while six other Lakers scored in double digits.
UCLA Bruins defeat Washington State Cougars 61-59. It almost played like Saturday's loss to Arizona State. The Bruins had an 11 point lead in the second half, but the Cougars came storming back on an 11-0 run to tie the game with 5:08 left. The two teams battled for the rest of the game with the Bruins fortunate enough to have the lead in the end. Nikola Dragovic had a career high 20 points for the Bruins.
Washington Huskies defeat USC Trojans 78-73. I love the guts of this Trojan team. Even when trailing by 13 points with just over a minute to go, the Trojans fought with tooth and nail and went on a 7-0 run in 28 seconds. Although they would still fall to the Huskies, their never-say-die attitude should be applauded.
Notable Notes
- The Industry city council unanimously approved the environmental report in a first step to getting an NFL stadium built out there and lure a team to the city. Despite opposition to the plan by the City of Walnut and assorted residents in the San Gabriel Valley, the Industry council members thought the project would be good for the region. Officials from West Covina, Monterey Park and La Puente spoke in favor of the project during the meeting.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I won't believe any of it until a team physically moves to Los Angeles.
- Jeff Kent has his presser announcing his retirement, and it was quite emotional. Wiping away tears throughout, he was honest about his personality throughout his playing career and his accomplishments. Hell, he even got in a zinger on Bill Plaschke which endeared him more to me in that one moment.
- Do yourself a favor and watch some Australian Open tennis on ESPN2.
Tonight's Action
Oklahoma City Thunder at LA Clippers. The most entertaining thing about this game will be listening to Ralph Lawler, the most underrated broadcaster. 7:30 pm FS Prime Ticket, AM 710 KSPN.

As a resident of Walnut, I approve the opposition of the plan. Seriously, it's like RIGHT. THERE. If they build it, I can't drive to my local Target without passing it. Or get a Double Double without seeing it. And the 60 is bad enough ugh goodness.
