UPDATE: View more Los Angeles inauguration events here and check out inauguration schedule in Pacific Standard Time
Now here's a great use for those criticized TV screens all around LA LIve's Nokia Plaza. Councilwoman Jan Perry invites all to come "celebrate history" at "L.A.'s Biggest Inaugural Viewing Party." It's next Tuesday morning with events beginning at 7 a.m. Barack will take office around 9 a.m. with post ceremony coverage, entertainment, and the parade to follow.
Also: We've heard that at least one private school has deemed the day a holiday so kids can watch the inauguration with their parents. Is your work or school giving you the day off?

Sadly, my job is not giving us the day off. I think our on-site gym is going to be packed that morning though... it has the only TV in the building.
I'm undecided on where to go yet. Wherever it is, I need Wifi:)
No one should have to work on Tuesday. Just as no one should have to work on election day.
Why Tuesday, eh?
There was a possible proposition making its way around petitions to make it a holiday in California. I'll check up on it.
'Is your work or school giving you the day off?'
re: haha... not really. The owners of the place I work are 'those kind of foreigners' that only care about the fortune of their cookies...
I have to work that morning but my worksite will be simulcasting inauguration coverage, so I can't complain.
On a related note: What type of large, public, and super-celebratory events are happening in L.A. that *night*? After work, I'd love to indulge in some righteous merry-making with my fellow citizens, since I do believe that the inauguration of our new president represents an awesome moment for the citizenry at large.
It'd be great if LAist could compile a post of events, gatherings, raves, or rallies that you know will occur after sundown on the 20th!
21st Birthday + Obama inauguration = Epic.
We didn't get the day off, so I took it off because it would be just impossible for me to work.
Thanks for this heads up and would like to second Xtina's request for LAist to compile events around the city. So far I know of two (but one is already full):
1) Art of Change: Inaugural Ball at the Mayan ($10)
2) Generation Obama: Los Angeles is hosting an Inaugural Bash at the Whiskey Blue in W Hotel (but is already full).
Are there others?
Thanks so much for the info! Just wanted to let you know we linked this article on our blog! http://culturistas.blogspot.com
