Slash Says Keep Billy at the LA Zoo

It's all on now! The zoo and others, who want to keep Billy from being ousted to some elephant sanctuary or elsewhere, just enlisted Slash from Guns n Roses for this video (and most recently got Jack Hanna on their side, too). And to make it a Happy Gilmore moment, the "Free Billy" folks have Bob Barker. Now, tap gloves.. go!

This is week is crucial for the Billy debate. A city council committee will take up the issue on Wednesday followed by a full city council vote on Friday.

Wow, well if Slash says it's good for the elephant, than surely it must be!

I won't argue in favor of or against the enclosure because I honestly don't feel that I understand the situation well enough to make an informed decision/opinion. The bottom line is that what's best for Billy (and any elephants the zoo plans to acquire in the future) needs to be the deciding factor, not whether Slash's kids will miss out on the opportunity to see elephants at the zoo or not. Being an animal lover doesn't make him an animal expert, and it certainly doesn't qualify him to best determine the needs of this elephant. His plea strikes me as genuine and heartfelt, though very short sighted.

Slash should take a look at this report by In Defense of Animals (IDA):
http://www.helpelephants.com/topten2008/

The Los Angeles zoo was just ranked #3 in the list of the worst zoos in the country for elephants, and this is the fourth year that L.A. has made the list.

What was news to me was the part at the bottom of the page where Six Flags (Magic Mountain) gets listed in their Hall of Shame as repeat offenders.
