*UPDATE: Per CBS-2's live television news broadcast at 6:15 tonight, the incident involved a family of 5 who were inside the tunnel. The one fatality is said to be a 25-year-old (not 45 as previously reported). The train was Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner, headed from San Francisco to San Diego. The passengers on board were not evacuated, and the train is expected to resume its' journey once power is restored. There is no information about why the family was in the tunnel.
At 4:10 p.m. today The Los Angeles Fire Department reported they'd received notice of a "person struck by train in the tunnel north of Chatsworth Park." Within the hour, the LAFD reported that "1 female, 45, was pronounced, succumbing to injuries." There are no passengers on board who reported injuries as a result of the impact. No information regarding what train service, line, or number was involved, nor how the woman came to be in the train's path.
This area in Chatsworth is near the scene of September's deadly Metrolink-freight train collision and derailment.

There is not Metrolink service on weekends so it had to have been an Amtrak train.
I mean to say that there is no ML service on the Ventura County line on weekends, which is the line that runs through Chatsworth.
Thanks, Syringe Mouth. It's Sunday, so the news outlets are sluggish, and I can't for the life of me get a single schedule to load from the Metrolink website to help me rule them out. Your savvy is appreciated!
It may well have been Amtrak, but nothing confirmed yet.
This is a tragedy, indeed.
On a side note, I've taken both the Surfliner to Santa Barbara and to San Diego. It's simply the best ever and also one of the most busy Amtrak lines in the country.
This is tragic, but why were they inside an operational train tunnel to begin with? Actual train accidents are horrific when they do occur, but most deaths by train seem to be by people who are suicidal or completely ignorant.
One correction to note and I've seen it everywhere, The Pacific Surfliner did not start in San Francisco, that train started in either Paso Robles, SLO or Goleta. There is no Amtrak Rail service to Downtown SF. Amtrak gets there by bus.
We got in touch with Amtrak and confirmed the train route and point of origin this morning: http://laist.com/2009/01/12/woman_struck_and_killed_by_amtrak_t.php
(But you're right--it began in Goleta.)
Agreed, GarySe7en, people have no business being inside a tunnel. It is not a wise choice to make.
