RIght NOW on CNN (11a PST), you can check out a condensed version of the hit documentary I.O.U.S.A., about the growing national debt crisis that we all face. In these tough economic times, one way to stay on top is to stay informed, and I.O.U.S.A. is a great way to do just that.

The film has already been making the rounds at several film festivals, including Sundance, and was 'shortlisted' for Best Documentary at the Oscars. If you ever needed a reason to watch CNN, and we all know that sometimes you do, this may be it.

IOUSA is nothing but right wing budget hawk propaganda designed to make people think that deficit spending during a recession is a bad idea.

And no, that's not a joke. The last thing we need right now is a brunch of crazy people talking the government out of injecting huge amounts of cash into infrastructure spending, public works and so forth. Oh, and also it's a handy excuse to gut social security and medicare.

They're trying to make it look like government spending is the cause of the mess we're in, instead of, you know, a completely unregulated financial market (including the private credit industry) combined with a significant loss of tax revenue resulting from the fact that republicans don't believe that Rich people should be required to contribute to society.

In short, if we even pretend for a moment that this "documentary" is a serious thing, we're letting right wing liars win.

I just saw the video on the IOUSA website. Did CNN air the appeal to the online petition. I think the film has interesting info but the only "call to action" was to sign up for email updates. SCARY!! That makes me nervous. Its obvious that the filmmakers are more concerned with building the pgpf email list that solving the problems with debt. Why do we need their email updates? Why can't they just tell us the solution on the video? Also, why didn't CNN finance this film? Why are they airing material that was financed by lobbyist?
