Metro's board was supposed to vote later this month on the long-range plan that would have set timetables for projects such as the "Subway to the Sea," and other projects. Community members and politicians such as Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa were not to pleased to see opening dates for projects more than 20 years from now (a subway to Westwood/UCLA would open in 2032).
But today, Metro announced they will postpone that vote. "The board has decided to wait, hoping to see what money may become available for projects after President-elect Barack Obama takes office on Jan. 20," wrote transit hound Steve Hymon, who broke the original timetable story, at the LA Times. "Obama has said he wants to spend billions of dollars on infrastructure projects to create new jobs and put some zip into the nation's economy."

"thanks you, Obama"? am I misunderstanding this or are you implying that Obama's plan to stimulate the economy and making that our 1st priority should take the backseat to Los Angeles's metro system?
Yes, you misunderstand. He's saying Obama's plan is to stimulate the economy by (among other things) building up infrastructure - like the LA metro system. So the vote on the current plan with the far-reaching dates is being postponed on the hope that Obama's economic stimulus plan includes money for our metro system and we can create a new plan with closer completion dates.
THIS is what I've been praying for! Literally! I hope we can speed this timetable up and I pray Mayor Tony's relationship with the President-elect will be parlayed into our subway being built! I'm trying to temper my excitement but I'm optimistic!!!!!
