Increased Hours at Meters are Messing with Downtown Residents

You can't go out to eat and see a play in the NoHo Arts Disrict without having to move your car or face getting a ticket. In Hollywood, lunch in one hours time is just not possible, but that's all you get. And in Highland Park, higher prices on meters have driven people to pack the residential side streets. Some of these mean a change of habit for the people, but most of the complaints are driven due to the fact that the city didn't plan/think ahead when extending the hours and upping the prices on meters.

"This is just such a shitty move by the city," vents downtowndweller in the comment section of an earlier post. "They have changed it to $3/hr right in front of my building and extended the hours to 8pm. I live in the garment district and they know that those merchants are out of there by 6pm. So the only people really being affected by the extended hours are the residents. Why are they trying to make it more difficult for people who are living in downtown and trying to be a part of the revival?!"

You see, this is why I have my manservant, Punjab, drive me in the Limo whereever I need go. The money I save from evading the expensive hike in meter rates, I can apply to a new platinum finish for my G-IV!

That's why I take it to go

even if some of the downtown spaces have extended to 8pm, isn't there still the idea of loading spaces? technically, they are free after 6pm unless in front of an open establishment, i think. i could be wrong though.

Great picture. Now I know why the meters look banged up. The service personnel carry hammers as part of their tool-kit.

" isn't there still the idea of loading spaces?"

Except that they keep taking away loading zones. I work for a business downtown that needs those loading zones to make deliveries and do business. The city keeps turning more and more of them into meter spaces.

I'm wondering how soon I'll have to make all my deliveries on foot.

There IS a redline station pretty much in the middle of the noho arts district. Maybe it's a ploy to get people to use more public transit, but doubtful. Anyway, I've been known to drive to Hollywood and Highland (before I could walk to it) and park there, taking the red line downtown or to Noho so I didn't have to deal with parking.
