LAst Night's Action: Lakers Squeak By

Gasol Taking It to the Hole

LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 114-106. Pau Gasol got 33 points and tied a career high 18 rebounds as the Lakers needed an strong fourth quarter push to withstand the Warriors offensive onslaught. After getting only 10 points against the Hornets the night before, Gasol seemed make the Warriors pay for it especially in the fourth quarter. With a 28-6 record the Lakers are tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the best record in the NBA.

Notable Notes

  • This is just a question I have. With all the focus on Tim Tebow and his proselytizing and all of these Christian athletes, when will we have the star quarterback who's an atheist? Perhaps the wide receiver who's wiccan? Just wondering.
  • Bill James, the guru of sabermetrics, wrote a piece in The Slate urging all statisticians to boycott the BCS. He concludes his manifesto by saying,

But until that happens, statisticians, quantitative analysts, and all related professionals should have the dignity, the self-respect, and the common sense to have nothing to do with the BCS. This isn't a national championship—it's a big-money waltz. The only role that the computer rankings play in this is that they're there to take the fall when the system doesn't work—and it doesn't work most of the time.

  • It looks like the Dodgers will lose Trevor Hoffman to the Milwaukee Brewers. According to his agent, Hoffman will make his decision later today.
  • Plaschke likes the way the Dodgers are handling Manny which means that all Dodger fans are screwed.
  • The Pillsbury Doughboy is now head coach of the Cleveland Browns, the Celtics can't win a game and Candace Parker has been busy.
