Eat This: Cupcake with Pan Fried Peanut Butter

elivscupcake.jpg

Happy 74th Birthday, Elvis! If you were alive today (oh wait, conspiracy theory #1445 says you are alive), you would have loved this cupcake with one of your favorite foods that we just tasted at Crumbs Bake Shop.

Peanut butter based cupcakes usually don't taste very peanut butter-like. That was until Crumbs used a rich swirl of--oh my God--pan fried peanut butter in today's special treat. Mixed in with peanut butter and banana frosting atop a banana flavored yellow cake filled with banana cream, we ate the large $3.75 cupcake in only a few short minutes (so long resolution for the day).

Select Crumbs locations will continue carrying the treat throughout the month, but they will be available throughout today at their three Los Angeles locations in Beverly Hills, Glendale and Larchmont Village.

Crumbs' cake is way dry & I hate that they make up for it by squeezing cream in the middle of the cupcake. What is this Hostess? No thanks. And they use way too much buttercream.

If we're going for best moistness in the city, then Famous Cupcakes in Valley Village has it. Sorry Sprinkles and Crumbs, but that's just a fact. ;)

Isn't that the place that Sprinkles is suing?

maybe i'll check it out this weekend

MAYBE

i'd murder that cupcake if it was vegan!

Have you tried the vegan cupcakes from Mani's? As far as vegan cupcakes go, they are awesome. Of course I've never met a vegan baked good I didn't like. Maybe because they're slightly lighter? And of course Isa Chandra Moskowitz has AMAZING recipe books for them.

thanks for the suggestions, msmerymac

All of these comments are making me hungry!

Elvis IS alive and well and living in a retirement home.

Or didn't you see "Bubba Ho-Tep?"

Cupcakes have really made a turn-around. I remember a few short years ago a co-worker was ashen faced her mother had sent cupcakes to the office for her birthday. Now they're trendy. Life is funny.
