According to a KCAL9 TV news report, the street is closed to cars from Fairfax Ave. on the east to San Vicente on the West as protesters take over the Miracle Mile area in front of the Israeli Consulate. Police have separated the two groups by 25 feet with rope and in case the demonstration is declared unlawful, the LAPD has set up a special viewing area for the press, they said in a media release. Wow, how thoughtful. (View photos from a recent protest here)

I'm all for free speech, public assembly and all that jazz...but come on you really have close down Wilshire for a demonstration that doesn't really impact LA?
Besides, terrorist, I mean Hamas, supporters can protest Israel all they want, I won't be changing my mind.
But if anyone reading this was part of the demonstration, either to support Hamas or Israel, tell me why and what you think it accomplishes. Maybe I'm missing something.
Wow trojie!
Something we actually agree on. (sort of)
Although I'm still willing to condemn Israel for their treatment, and indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians, (not to be confused with Hamas), I can't support a government that lobs rockets at civilian targets in Israel, knowing full well that they will get a disporportioate response from Israel that kills a lot of Palestinian civilians.
If someone were marching for the civilian victims on both sides, I'd join them, but I don't see anyone doing that.
What's so wrong about protesting the reckless killing of innocent men, women and children? And I wasn't at the protest, but I'm pretty sure no one supports Hamas; they support the Palestinian people who are always getting fucked over simply because they are Palestinian.
hallmonitor, I'm sure that's what it is no one supports Hamas... that's why you're ignoring they're known support for TERRORISM? You're ignoring they're purchase of rockets that have been fired into Israel INDISCRIMINATELY?
How would you want the LAPD to respond if you're neighbor kept lobbing rockets at your house even after thousands of warnings, and repeated attempts by intermediaries to make them stop?
I'm not going to get into the topic of Palestinian/ Israel Peace, but I don't see the people in the West Bank (Fatah controlled) complaining much anymore.
Still, what's the point of demonstrating and closing down streets here? The protests before were on street corners, but a whole street closure in an aretery of West LA? No side makes friends that way.
If anything go and close the streets with demonstration in front of the UN, the White House and Iranian consulate in DC. Iran is the biggest supporter of Hamas.
I still want to know what is accomplished by having MASSIVE demonstrations here.
I can see the showing support, but again can't that be on a street corner, or just the side walk in front of the Federal BLDG.
Also don't forget that Hamas is the democratically elected government in Gaza. And although I don't support the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians, they did elect Hamas.
