Kings Beat Flyers 2-1 in Shootout

The Kings newest goaltender, Jonathan Quick, continued his stingy ways during his fifth NHL start by holding the Atlantic Division leading Philadelphia Flyers to just one goal on Saturday night. Scott Hartnell scored the lone tally for the Flyers three minutes into the middle period, but was matched by rookie Wayne Simmonds during a Kings' power play late in the period. The game stayed tied through overtime and resulted in a shootout.

The Kings traded away goalie Jason LaBarbera (and his 0-4 record in the shootouts) earlier in the week and it was newcomer Quick's first endeavor in the NHL's post-game skills contest to determine the winner. He came through with flying colors, stopping shots by Jeff Carter and Mike Richards while Patrick O'Sullivan and Dustin Brown scored for LA to seal the victory.

Quick has given Kings fans a ray of hope of seeing the 2009 playoffs after posting a 0.79 goals-against average in five starts since giving up five goals in his first game at Detroit on Dec. 20. Quick has stopped all but four of 132 shots since then, which included two shutouts. The Kings will face the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night at the Pond.
