- A family of a man who lost control of his car and plummeted to his death in a flood control ditch is suing the city and and the county. The family says that the city and the county acted negligently by not having a barrier installed. Although officials state that a recommendation for barriers was made in 2007, a plan is just now in the works to have construction of barriers start in the spring. Maybe a story of too little too late...
- The suspect of a New Year's Eve shooting in Studio City has been arrested. The suspect was apparently serving as a bouncer of a "pay-at-the-door" party at a rented home that was in foreclosure. He is being held at the "Twin Towers" on $1 million bail.
- The OC fare increase took effect today. The 25 cent hike raised fares to $1.50 and is only the second increase in 18 years. The rising cost of fuel has added to the $18 million shortfall in OCTA's budget. Despite the increase, commuters in the OC still save an average of around $650 a month by using the bus compared to driving.
- Who says that crime doesn't pay? Applications for LAPD jobs have surged with advertisements showing that crime-fighting is a recession proof career. The "No-layoff promise" also makes being a policeman a tempting offer.
- After a year of apparent inactivity, U.S. government Rep. Henry Waxman (the chairman during the steroids in baseball questionings) issued a letter to the Officer of the National Drug Control Policy, stating that the WWE and TNA have not done enough to address the problem of steroid abuse in pro wrestling. Whether the letter will have any major impact on the industry remains to be seen, but it certainly proves the government has not overlooked wrestling.
- If you were planning on eating out in the OC area at all, you NEED to check out this list of closures due to suspended permits. Mmmm... "Cockroach infestation" at Lentile House in Anaheim. Yikes!!!
- Finally, with the thought of great cuisine on your mind, a former cop is out to capture the "Ultimate Recipe" on the Food Network tonight. Host Guy Fieri will check out former LAPD officer Rick Massa's mac-n-cheese. The prize for winning is $25,000... but don't think Massa is stressing. He is 35 year vet of the LAPD with 25 years of that in the SWAT team.
