Weekend Movie Guide: Not Bond, James Bond

craigdefiant.jpg

The New Year's weekend is typically very slow since most people either went to the movies over Christmas or are still too hung-over from New Year's Eve to bother leaving the house. As such, it's a light release schedule this week. Defiance is the story of three Polish brothers who escape from a Nazi concentration camp and join forces with a group of Russian resistance fighters to build a safe refuge from which to battle the forces of evil. Sounds light and frothy!

Good tells the story of one John Halder (Viggo Mortensen) who inadvertantly helps the cause of the Nazis (again with the Nazis?!) by writing a book advocating compassionate euthanasia. The film is ostensibly a parable about how the acts of the good can sometimes serve the needs of the evil. Neither Defiance nor Good have received particularly, uh, good critical notices so save yourself time and money and see one of these films instead. Yes, this means you!
