Back in October, the Yes on 8 "people" challenged California's Superintendent of Schools, Jack O'Connell, to a debate about gay marriage. According to Yes, even the remotest possibility of learning anything about gay marriage is harmful to children. Nothing hateful about that!
Anyway, the No side refused to debate. In fact, not only did (self-described) Campaign Manager Steve Smith hide from the debate, but his response was obscured from public view in a hard-to-find PDF. (But we dug up the text and included it after the jump.)
But now there's a debate happening for real! Gloria Allred and Andy Pugno will argue about how California defines marriage On January 14 at The National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, 111 North Central Ave, Los Angeles. (Gloria is one of the lawyers suing to overturn Prop 8; Andy is a lawyer who opposes California's equal protection clause.) Tickets are $20, and throwing of vegetables is strictly forbidden.
This is a fight that, obviously, the gays will win in the long run. In fact, the run probably isn't even that long. Getting the anti-marriage folks on record, explaining just how crazy their position is, can only hasten along the cause of civil equality.

I thought we voted for this. Not interested enough as to waste my veggie-bananas in a half-assed debate. If only people (american) were interested in issues that affect the whole nation not just themselves...
I thought we had a Constitution to prevent votes like this. Not interested in wasting eighty million dollars on stupid pointless elections when we have an economic crisis and two wars going on. If only americans actually read their constitution and didn't try to persecute minorities in order to distract from real issues.
Fabricio, get yer head out of yer ass.
Your argument was fine up until the last sentence, rdm24. I think we can do without namecalling/ad hominem attacks.
It's not an ad hominem attack when you can clearly see that someone's head is indeed stuck up their ass. Pointing it out is a social good.
I applaud RDM24's efforts to bring attention to the plague of recto-cranial inversion sweeping our great state. Why, a recent study released on November 4, 2008 showed that 52% of Californians suffer from the very serious. Kudos, RDM. Kudos.
One thing is that most people seem to not notice is that everyone is a hypocrite and out for their own objectives. We are human. Just as the campaign for Prop 8 said that teaching children would be harmful, No on Prop 8 said that homosexuality wasn't taught in schools. There was an article on here about three weeks ago (or maybe more) that said that groups of gay teachers would be meeting to discuss how they would teach their students about homosexuality. So if the superintendent wants to say it has nothing to do with schools, it does. Even if a child isn't taught about it in school, they will eventually learn it because it is everywhere, it's unavoidable. Why not leave it out of schools and let each parent teach their kids about it?
All I tried to say is that all those gays and not gays that were protesting about their rights didn't care about other equal rights like immigration, race issues. Basically... 'you didn't get out in the streets until the problem affected you'. Very selfish and to top it off people doesn't seem to have the right to have their opinion since according to Royps the people in California that voted yes suffer from retro-cranial inversion. I didn't try to offend anyone in my post and ironically I never said what I voted for either. rdm24 is clearly bothered about the situation and I have to thank you for your advice... but let me add not to worry what I do with my ass since I don't care what you do with yours.
skylarr, you are full of shit.
A teacher can't break wind in class without a parent's permission, much less change or alter the curriculum. That scare tactic is a total lie. Just like the lie about a lesbian teacher in San Francisco inviting her class to her same sex wedding as a field trip.
Children ALWAYS have to have their parent's full knowlege and permission to go on ANY field trip, not just gay weddings.
Ladies and gentlemen, The Amazing Fabricio! His psychic abilities allow him to divine the motives and interests of all homosexuals everywhere!
Thanks for the support guys, but Grendel was right.
My last sentence to Fabricio was rude, and I would like to offer my apologies. Let's start 2009 with as little trollish behavior as possible.
But I will STRONGLY disagree with you that the gays and their allies don't care about the rights of others. We've been at pretty much every civil rights protest since the beginning. I mean, where would MLK been without Bayard Rustin?
We were there, in force. Just because you don't see tons of drag queens at the immigration rallies doesn't mean that queers weren't there.
Bayard Rustin was simply a black man, who struggled for civil rights not given to him because he was black. What he did in his bedroom had nothing to do with the discrimination, death threats, lynchings, slavery, and persecution he endured because he was black.
As a matter of fact, a white homosexual slave owner would seek out the likes of such as Rustin to exercise his deviant sexual behaviour upon.
Fabricio, you could ask the same of blacks for gay issues, of immigrants for black issues, and so on and so forth. So please excuse a black guy for being selfish for protesting against being forced to the back of a bus, and please excuse gays for being angry about not being allowed to marry someone they love.
By the way, there are black gays and immigrant gays. Homosexuality happens to cross all minorities.
People like Ross seem to always make reference to heads being stuck up asses, when I am sure that he spends a lot of weekend time doing just that, sticking his head up men's asses.
rdm24: Sorry, to disagree, but the LGBT has failed to stand up for issues concerning minorities and there were gays in the Confederacy owning slaves and engaged in lynching. If you dare disagree, then you suggest that gaydom is a Northern and Western invention and not particular to the Southern States of America.
Gay groups ally themselves with NAMBLA, and follow the traditions of the Gay Activist founder, Harry Hay, who promoted man/boy love relations.
No LGBT rep or donation was ever contributed to the Sherrece Iverson justice fund, when two men raped and sodomized this 7 year of Black girl. No out cry from them when David Cash was never prosecuted and walked around his campus bragging about the events.
Fact is, the gay turn out for the No on 8 vote in San Francisco was less than 50%. Many gays did not oppose Prop 8 and were offended by the outing of other gays. This was evidenced by the boycotting of El Coyote and the many gays who continued and continue to patronized this fine establishmnet that has pumped millions of dollars into the gay community.
Second point, the No on 8 campaign has foolishly tried to suggest that the Yes people on the right lied about the schools. Yet, the California Teachers Assn contributed $1.2 million to the No on 8 campaign.
Schools often do things without parents permission and this trend is getting worse. It was this same Teachers Assn opposing Prop 2 or 4 ( I won't look it up) to make it a law that parents must be notified before their minor child can have an abortion.
Funny how these thousands of homosexual pedophiles posing as Catholic priest were able to molest and rape thousands of little boys (some turned homosexual now) for years without parental permission.
Recently there was a Town Hall Debate with Randy Pugno for the Right and Gloria Allred for the Leftout.
Gloria make numerous references to what if they voted to prohibit interracial marriage and bring back slavery.
First, the Yes on 8, the 52.5% in Calif. and 87% in the nation, would not let your No side or Leftout side prohibit White men from marrying Asian girls and White women from marrying Black men or even Russian women from marrying Italian men. We also would not let you enslave British people or anybody else.
The world supported the fight to end slavery and to stop the minority Southerners and the world supporters the same fight to end enslavement by gender identity confused marriages.
