Happy New Year 2009! by kpe II via the LAist Featured Photos pool on Flickr
- Resolution #1: Be earthquake safe! - Yet another earthquake rocked the Southland. This time it was a 3.2 shaker just off the Malibu Coast. NO injuries or damage was reported and no calls were made to authorities. Broad Beach disappearing and now this? Yikes...
- Resolution #2: Be PATIENT already!!! - While the coast was rockin', Matt Dillon was busted for rollin'... at 106 mph! Let us repeat that... ONE HUNDRED SIX MILES AN HOUR! What is he in a hurry or something?
- Resolution #3: Do what I believe is right. - Some stars have done what they believe is right by asking for their pics to be removed from the website of a diamond company. Apparently the company was linked to human rights violations in Africa and Israel.
- Resolution #4: Speak my mind more. - Pro-Israeli and Pro-Hamas protesters voiced their opinions in front of the Israeli Consulate. The disputed Gaza region has fallen to more violence in the past couple of days than it has seen in years.
- Resolution #5: Be "Greener" in the '09 - This man started taking public transportation and biking because he was forced to with insane price of gas. Now he does just because! (NBC.com video)
- Resolution #6: Give more to the community - The Salvation Army says that it is hurting for donations. With the economy hurting, people are holding on to their belongings. However, there are benefits to donating, besides the satisfaction of helping others in need, you also get a nice tax break Go get those donations in before midnight and you get to count it on your 2008 return!
- Finally... Celebrate Safely! There surely will be a lot police out tonight and one place you'll find them stopping everyone is on Main Street near Ocean Park in Santa Monica where police will be holding a DUI checkpoint. Stay safe out there and if you need, there's always the tipsy tow and late-night train service (via press release). Happy New Year LA!!!
