An American Carol seems to lack that genuine mean-spiritedness that makes conservatives like P.J. O'Rourke and Mark Steyn so funny. It's a shame to see an old lion like David Zucker (see here, here, here, here) wither into comedic senescence. Then again, it will happen to us all. Towelhead seems to have that "shock for the sake of shocking" vibe warning against it. Still, Alan Ball is always worth a look, right? Whither the true magic of Wooderson, Matthew McConaughey? Who else was as freaked out as I was the first time you saw Bob Saget get really dirty?

Towelhead is disturbing. I think it pretends to have a meaning or reason, but really, it's just a justification after the fact. The creepy neighbor and the father both have decent performances. The main girl character is only sometimes believable, it is overall dark and I pretty much wished I hadn't seen it. It's pretty graphic for not being very graphic.
