The Death of the Classic Warner Bros. Cartoon Mural

Over the holiday week, it appears that Warner Brothers has painted over their huge Looney Tunes/Hanna-Barbera/Warner Animation mural that's been there for more than 15 years, finds animation authority, historian and author Jerry Beck on his blog, Cartoon Brew. "To give them benefit of the doubt, perhaps they are going to replace it with an even better graphic of Bugs Bunny and crew. I hope so... but who wants to bet that Harry Potter or the live action Dark Knight will soon be guiding us toward the Cahuenga Pass."

In a day when Los Angeles is fighting billboard blight (note that this is in Burbank), this prime location could be turning into a rotating billboard for movies instead of the pop art that once was. However, the clouds seemed to be left in place (see a larger version of the image here), which could be a good that a new and similar mural is coming.

Not sure, but I think that was less painted over than entirely removed - it always looked to me like everything but the clouds was on a different canvas, so to speak, a few inches out, giving it a 3d look.
Indeed, hope they do something new and cool with it. Although if they are going to go the revolving billboard route, a Watchmen billboard would be sweet.

Drove by earlier today, and, ad mentioned, nothing was technically painted over - the raised cutout with the WB characters on it was removed. The existing mural looks rather messy. I'm guessing that if they'd intended to paint over or redo the mural, they'd have done a cleaner job. Instead, I'm guessing they're doing some work to the removed portion, and will return it to the side of the soundstage by the time the suits return to work on Monday...
