December is list-making season. And for us music journalists, it is a time to look back on scores of albums, reflect upon the music and recapitulate our favorites. But this year, just like the last, we took this opportunity to flip that tradition upside down, asking the artists that influenced us what influenced them. The prompt was not limited to albums that came out in 2008.

Making a living in dance music is supposed to be tough. Apparently Vermont-born, LA-based Morgan Page never heard that one. His moving melodies have stood atop both Billboard's Club Play Chart (a bunch of times,) and iTunes' Dance Chart. The 20something has also done remixes for big guns like Nelly Furtado and Stevie Nicks. If you've not yet heard this scruffy-faced Vermonster, you've probably seen him in traffic. Page is featured on LA city buses as part of KCRW's latest string of ads.

Morgan Page (Myspace) Top 10 LPs/Singles/Remixes of 2008

Deadmau5 - various originals and remixes
Style of Eye - all of his remixes
Stuart Price - the albums he produced for other artists
John Dahlback "World of Love" (and all his remixes)
MGMT "Oracular Spectacular" LP
Fleet Foxes "Fleet Foxes" LP
Does It Offend You Yeah? "Dawn of The Dead"
Meiko "Meiko"
Greg Laswell "Three Flights From Alto Nido"
Lykke Li "Youth Novels" LP

2008 was an incredible year for music! I found my tastes expanding, and my ears opening up to new sounds.  Styles are merging, technology is better than ever, and the music continues to impress. Who cares if we're in a recession -- it obviously isn't affecting creative output!
